Youth and Early Years

GBT Youth and Early Years Department provides a range of services and activities for children, young people and families.

Our Early Years Services support children’s development across key areas including speech, language and communication, motor skills, and social and emotional wellbeing.

Messy Play

Messy play is fun and imaginative. It fosters curiosity, imagination and exploration.

Designed around evidence that sensory-rich experiences support early learning, exploration, communication and cognitive development.

Outdoor Free Play

Aligned with evidence supporting child-led outdoor play as a contributor to physical health, resilience, social development and wellbeing.

Baby Massage

Delivered by trained practitioners using recognised infant massage approaches that support parent-child attachment, responsive caregiving and infant wellbeing.

Dungeons and Dragons Club

Join us at our D&D club on Wednesdays 5 - 6:30pm. The club is a small group of young people who meet weekly to play the game and have fun.

Curiosity Club

Curiosity Club is part of our science project, supported by Children in Need. Sessions run in blocks and involve smaller groups of young people taking part in activities that mix science and art together.

These sessions are a chance to chill out and produce something great to take home. Past activities include 3D printing, clay modelling, hydrodipping, paint your own canvas and sticker mosaics.

After School Club

After School Club runs on a Monday afternoon during term-time and provides a range of fun activities indoors and outdoors for children in primary 1 to 4.

After School Mucky Boots

Mucky Boots is an outdoor play based session suitable for P1-7, on a Thursday afternoon 3:30 - 5pm. It takes place in a local woodland where young people can explore the sights, sounds and smells of nature. Fun nature based activities from past blocks include stick limbo, den building and making pictures.

Science Club

We are very grateful to be funded by Children in Need for our science project. This enables us to provide fun and engaging STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) sessions and clubs for young people.

Science club takes place in our main GBT centre on Tuesdays from 3:15 - 4:45 pm and is suitable for young people aged 8+.

By taking part in informal science activities, young people have reported an increase in confidence, and have developed their communication and practical skills, while having lots of fun!

Tuesday Club

Tuesday Club is a youth drop-in for young people in primary 5 to 7 that provides a safe space for young people to try new activities, build relationships and work on their personal development.

Pokemon Club

Calling all Pokemon lovers! Come along to Shotts Healthy Living Centre between 4 and 5pm on Wednesdays for crafts, games and trading!

Art Club

Afterschool Art Club runs on a Wednesday afternoon between 3:30pm and 4:30pm. It runs in blocks of 4 weeks and is for ages P1-P4.


Youth Radio

Listen Lanarkshire Youth Panel:

The Youth Panel is for anyone under 25 to help plan activities and help shape the station's output and identity.

Youth Radio Club:

Open to Primary 5 to 1st Year pupils (flexible) on Monday nights between 4pm and 6pm at Springhill Community Hub.

Host live radio, create podcasts and play games.

Youth Friday's Radio:

For anyone under 25.

Plan activities and host live radio. Fridays from 12pm - 2pm at Springhill Community Hub.

Volunteer with us:

For all ages.

Host your own show or provide technical assistance. Hosting a show can be for individuals, pairs or threes.

BookBug

Delivered using the nationally recognised Bookbug approach developed by the Scottish Book Trust, which is grounded in evidence linking shared reading, songs and rhymes with language acquisition and early literacy development.

Delivered using the structured balance-bike methodology developed through the Cycling Scotland Play on Pedals programme, supporting physical development, balance and coordination.
