Community Transport

Community transport has a major role to play covering a very wide range of needs from access to hospital from disadvantaged areas to ensuring that our communities can participate in health and wellbeing activities at an affordable cost.

To meet such needs, our community transport provision has grown significantly in recent years and has achieved successes in capacity building within communities and meeting transport needs that are not covered by other provision.

Community transport can mitigate the cost of loneliness and isolation through providing older people and individuals with additional support needs with access to health and other services, and to social opportunities.

Our Mission Statement

Our vision is for inclusion and accessibility for all members of our community, whatever their transport needs. GBT will promote and support the delivery of high quality, reliable, accessible transport to the local communities. GBT will collaborate with community and statutory partners who share our vision for inclusion and accessibility; and be an advocate for the positive impact that community transport can have on the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities in North Lanarkshire.

This will be achieved by:

Facilitating a minibus hire service for non-profit making groups in North Lanarkshire. (Schools, Voluntary groups, Churches, Youth Groups, etc).

Supporting the local community to attend health and wellbeing activities run by Getting Better Together Ltd.

Providing GBT with a community transport infrastructure.

Provision of training and information for Community Transport in North Lanarkshire.

Building capacity for Community Transport throughout North Lanarkshire.

Please note our minibus hire service is not a self-drive hire service all services come with a fully qualified Pats and Midas trained driver.

GBT Community Transport Operates under Section 19 Community Bus Permit and is a non-profit making organisation.

GBT Volunteer Driving Service

This free service is for people over the age of 65 who have difficulty in accessing transport and attending their appointments but are not eligible for transport from the ambulance service.
